Bi-weekly newsletters, a marquee sign, twitter, website updates and PAC meetings keep students, parents and the community informed about activities and events occurring at our school. All families receive a yearly events calendar each July to help ensure school information and important dates are readily available.

In the 2011/12 school year, LDSS will continue to offer several initiatives to increase student learning. ~They include:
  • Daily Student Support (DSS) – Time within the day to get extra assistance with assignments, homework and enrichment activities.
  • Teacher Collaboration – Weekly time for teachers to focus on curriculum, assessment and professional practice to improve student learning.
  • The Learning Centre – A centralized learning assistance room that will offer extra support for students from regular classes.
In addition to these initiatives, LDSS will continue to offer Special Education classes for identified students and alternate programs to help students who require assistance outside a regular classroom. Extra assistance is also available outside of school hours to meet the individual needs of all our learners.

LDSS offers a full array of electives and academic courses that lead to graduation and post-secondary entrance. ~We are able to offer additional courses in partnership with E-Bus Academy, our district distant-learning school. Both our curricular and extra-curricular courses enable students to develop their physical, emotional, social and intellectual potentials.

Several annual Fine Arts events highlight our school year.  The Alternative Arts Fest in entering its 12th year and continues to bring amazing student performances and art work from all over our district.  LDSS also hosts an Indigenous Festival of the Arts. This festival is one of a kind in BC and showcases the unique and vibrant artistic/cultural talents of First Nation peoples.

Athletics for 2011/12 is supported by dedicated coaches and community volunteers and include soccer, golf, mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, volleyball and basketball. Last year our snowboarding team won gold in the team combined event at the BC provincials.
